Hakan is a Non-Executive Director, Director, and Chairperson with extensive Board
level engagement as a Company Secretary, CEO, COO, and CFO. With over thirty
years of board-level experience, he has made significant contributions across
various sectors, including community services, aged care, human rights,
governance, and the arts and culture, supported by an extensive background in the
private sector.
At the board level, Hakan empowers organisations to amplify their impact by
leveraging his extensive expertise in finance and accounting, operations,
governance, strategic planning, government relations, grants management, funding,
compliance, revenue diversification, risk mitigation, and change management.
He possesses a profound understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as well as a
deep appreciation for the multicultural communities of New South Wales. Hakan is
deeply committed to human rights, social cohesion, and effective governance.
In his executive roles within the New South Wales Public Sector, Hakan has held the
positions of COO and CFO at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the State
Library of New South Wales, as well as serving as the CEO of Multicultural NSW.
He has adeptly spearheaded transformational initiatives that have significantly improved
organisational performance and service delivery. Notable initiatives include the
Sydney Modern Project, various capital projects, transforming Multicultural NSW,
implementing community cohesion Grants Programs, and regional engagements and
partnerships with social impact organisations to address complex social issues.
Currently, Hakan is the Chair and Non-Executive Director of the Seniors Rights
Service NSW, a Non-Executive Director of Accessible Diversity Services Initiative
Limited, and the Chair of its Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. He also serves as
an independent member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee for the National
Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters, is a member of the NSW
Government Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing and holds the position of Non-
Executive Board Member for Flourish Australia.
Hakan holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Public Administration. He has
completed the Company Directors Course from the Australian Institute of Company
Directors (AICD) and is a Fellow member of both CPA Australia and the Governance
Institute of Australia.
